Regarding the "if you don't address the matter, people won't know what you are apologising for": I saw people under observe's video saying "he just said happy birthday" so to me it proves that if you just come across that video you won't understand.

He got famous around the age of 16 and since then he’s seemed to be stunted at that age in his mannerisms, actions, and those he surrounds himself with. It would make sense in a psychological sense for him to be attracted to those who are younger than him. He got so famous when he was a young teen that he lost the rest of his youth. He probably still feels like the 16-17 year olds he’s trying to “date” and relates to them more than other 21+ year olds so it doesn’t seem wrong to him even though it ABSOLUTELY is. I understand feeling desperate and lonely but maybe if he takes a step back and takes time to mature and grow up he’ll find people who are interested in him for the right reasons. He messaged these teens as himself on his public accounts so he was obviously hoping his celebrity would intimidate them or bolster him in some way. I just can’t help but remember that way back when we were warned about his predatory behavior from so many people and until now everyone who spoke out against him was torn down. I don’t think he can socially come back from this but I hope he genuinely grows as a person and emotionally from it. He knows right from wrong it’s obvious from how he’s tried to defend himself so it’s time he starts listening to his conscious and doing what’s right. He can’t take back what he’s done but he can be better in the future and I commend all the victims for standing up for themselves.

I’m a senior in college and am 19, and I have concerns about differences in social development and independence in talking with people my age because we have wildly different capabilities of consenting. Like, if you look at it by independence levels, a senior in college being close to high schoolers is creepy and weird because high schoolers haven’t had the chance to develop their own senses of security, comfort, and independence. I can’t even imagine messaging 16-17 year olds (that I haven’t grown up with and been a peer with) in anything other than a professional tutoring/teaching position. It’s REALLY easy to realize that “oh, we’re at really different stages in life and don’t have the same ability to consider the consequences for our actions”. I’m a TA working in a physics help center, and every time a freshman comes in I immediately get into a largely professional teaching mode and get filled with nostalgia because they’re still kids and are just now working out how to live on their own. And like, I love being able to try to help them avoid making the same mistakes I did and I enjoy conversations with some of them. But since I’m in a position of power there, I can’t even imagine trying to take advantage of those freshmen? (And half of them are OLDER than me) Like, I get that my being neurodivergent and having skipped 3 grades is generally unusual and there aren’t any established ethical guidelines, but yeah... it’s unimaginably weird to want to date someone who is incapable of making educated choices on the same level as you.
